Eileen Botsford is a Public Artist working on vast spectrum of on-site and online Public Art projects and commissions, and has exhibited on an international basis in group and solo exhibitions. She holds a Master in Fine Arts (MFA) from The Slade School of Fine Art and a BA (Honours) in Public Art and Design from Chelsea College of Art & Design.

 

She is currently working with documenta 14 'Learning from Athens' In their Educational Program 'Telling Works'. In the summer of 2017 she will be showing in the Pubic Art Festival Eye's Walk her piece 'Thalpori', a piece created over a series of workshops in collaboration with the children of Stegi Anilikon & Efivon of Syros. Her most recent interactive Public Art project was called 'Weave My Story' and it was designed and executed for Metamorphosis, which took place at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in June 2016.

Working and teaching within and for the community:

 

Eileen is, on an ongoing basis, working in collaboration with the EMST - National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens, in their Educational Program 'Without Borders'. In this framework she has held hands-on workshops with members of the therapeutic community of KETHEA In Action at Korydallos Correctional Facility, Athens, and for KETHEA therapists, a practice with the intention to help therapists use art workshop techniques in their sessions. Within the same framework she has also held workshops with children of the SOS Children's Villages, the women's therapeutic community of 18 Ανω as well as with groups of migrant women of Melissa Network.

Since September 2016 she has been teaching visual arts to refugee women in Athens, as part of Alef / Άλεφ education initiative at Melissa Network.

 

Parallel to this Eileen also runs art workshops for children in Greek and English at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.

 

As an Art Tutor she teaches within schools in BTEC & GCE Art & Design Programs, currently being the Public Art Tutor, Mixed Media Labs Tutor as well as the Historical and Contextual Studies Lecturer at the Doukas BTEC Foundation in Art & Design.

 

Other ongoing art education initiatives include her collaboration with The Onassis Foundation Scholars program Έλα μαζί μας / Come with us. 

 

Personal work:

 

In July 2015 Eileen developed a series of non-evasive Land Art interventions on the Santa Monica, USA coastline called 'Lines'. In September 2015 she started the development of her latest Land Art series called 'Gold Greece' which also comprises of multiple non-evasive interventions, this time - in the Greek natural environment. 

 

Her latest group exhibition was  Vlaves in May 2013 at Metapolis Art Center in Athens. In June 2012 Eileen took part in the Public Art project Art Takes Times Square and launched Offering 2012 as part of 8 to 8: State of Creative Emergency. In April 2011 she completed her latest LiveArt project which took place at Vryssaki, Athens. Other recent LiveArt projects include Amalias 36, Athens, December 2010 and In Memory of , Syros, Greece, July 2010. In 2009, amongst other projects, Eileen also exhibited and represented Greece in the Florence Biennale.

Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art 07, new media window displays such ones for Vivienne Westwood at Selfridges, London, and New Media Video displays for the play ‘Murder in the Cathedral’ by T.S. Elliot, St. Paul’s Church, Covent Garden, London. Other solo exhibitions include The Preretrospcetive Exhibition, Booze Cooperativa, Athens, September 2008 and The Bodymode Show, The Pearlfisher Gallery, London, May 2007. Other group exhibitions include at 'First Person' Wexter Center for the Arts, Columbus OH, USA June 2008, ‘Fragile’ at The Loop Art Fair, Barcelona, May 2008, The Van Brunt Gallery, N.Y, October 2007 and ‘Heterotopias’, Thessaloniki Centre of Contemporary Art September 2007, Art Athens 2005, Cyber Arts 2005, Ars Electronica, Austria, Art Interactive for ‘New Media / New Work’ 2006 MA, USA, and ‘Beautiful Decay’ 2006 Loose Projects, Sydney, Australia.

Eileen has accepted a number of sponsorships for her work including those from the
DESTE Foundation, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, and the GNTO. She has also won 2nd Best Experimental Video Award 05 at Strange Screen VI, Salonica Cinema Museum. Within 2006 & 2007, her award winning piece ‘Cycle’ was broadcasted internationally on SKY TV seven times.

Publications and interviews include Vogue Hellas , Gynaika Magazine, ‘Greek Modern Pioneers’ The British Council, Kathimerini Newspaper and various online publications.

Inspirational talks of hers include 'Perfection by Instinct' 
TEDx Thessaloniki 2011, 'The ten golden rules of freelancing' Panorama at Zappeion Megaro, Athens, and the International Interdisciplinary Conference “Science and Art”, Eugenidis Foundation, Athens​ where she talked about 'The use of the natural human form and its existence through digital formats and mass exposure methods, for presentation within the public domain'.



Other of Eileen’s projects include being the Founder and Creative Director of EBnefsi Design - new media art collaborative and Tosoma which worked in partnership with Nomadic Collaborations. Her work is part of private collections internationally and can also be viewed in collections open to the public, such as the ACG Art Collection and The Syros Center of Contemporary Art Collection.
